What days can you get pregnant? — Fertility treatment in Puerto Banus

If you are trying to conceive a child, it can be helpful to have an idea of when your ovulation cycles take place and when you are at your most fertile. Here we talk about when it’s easier to get pregnant and when to consider our fertility treatment in Puerto Banus.

The menstrual cycle

The duration of a woman's menstrual cycle typically ranges from 28 to 32 days. Some people have very short cycles, whereas others have ones that are significantly longer.

It is generally agreed upon that the first day of a person's period marks the beginning of their menstrual cycle. After that, the duration of their period typically ranges from three to seven days.

In most cases, deviations from the normal menstrual cycle take place during the follicular phase, which comes before ovulation.

The luteal phase, which lasts from the time of ovulation until the beginning of the next period, usually lasts for a total of 14 days.

Ovulation and conception

Ovulation takes place when an egg is released from one of the ovaries during the menstrual cycle. Once it has been released, the egg travels down the fallopian tube toward the uterus, a journey that typically takes about twenty-four hours.

Sperm fertilises the egg in the fallopian tube, causing pregnancy. If sperm fails to fertilise the egg, it moves to the uterus and breaks down, preparing for the next menstrual period.

Maximizing fertility and chances of conception

If a person wants to increase their chances of getting pregnant, they should try to time their sexual encounters so that they take place in the two to three days leading up to, and including, their ovulation. If you have sexual activity on any of these days, there is a 20%–30% chance that you will become pregnant.

The following are some additional things you can do to increase your chances of getting pregnant:

  • Have regular sexual intercourse. The likelihood of a couple getting pregnant is increased when they engage in sexual activity every 2 or 3 days throughout the month.
  • Avoid smoking. Tobacco use is associated with decreased fertility as well as negative effects on the health of the developing foetus.
  • Limit alcohol intake. Consuming alcohol can decrease fertility in both males and females and is harmful to the developing foetus.
  • Maintain a moderate weight. Overweight and underweight people have irregular ovulation.
  • While research isn't conclusive, reducing stress may increase fertility.
  • Take care of comorbidities: Determine the presence of any possible medical causes of infertility and treat them if necessary.

Our doctor can evaluate the general health of a couple and will suggest other strategies that will increase the chances of the couple becoming pregnant.

When to see a doctor for fertility treatment in Puerto Banus

Women who monitor their fertile window with the intention of conceiving a child should see a doctor for fertility treatment in Puerto Banus.

A doctor can offer advice on the use of folic acid or prenatal supplements to encourage a healthy pregnancy, in addition to identifying any obstacles that may be preventing a couple from becoming pregnant.

The vast majority of sexually active couples who do not use any form of birth control are likely to become pregnant within a year of their sexual activity.

Women under 35 should see a doctor after a year of trying to conceive. Those over 35 should see a doctor after 6 months of trying to conceive.

Anyone who has cycles that are not regular or who does not appear to ovulate should also consult their primary care physician. It's possible that an undiagnosed medical condition is the root cause of your inability to ovulate and conceive.
